End Of An Era
As CEO of Oracle, Lawrence "Larry" Ellison has been one of the true influencers of the IT industry. He has threatened to shoot competitors, outlasted many others and chased the title of the richest man in the world, buying or commissioning the best and most expensive yachts to engage in his passion for sailing and of course he has been inspirational.
No one has ever called Ellison boring. Indeed, from the time when "Oracle" was a CIA project and not a company,
he has managed to be a part of nearly all the biggest changes in the IT industry, where he has continually redefined the future of computing while continuing to have a lot of fun doing so.

Kit Malthouse, the deputy mayor for London, gave a startling speech about Oracle on Wednesday and has called for companies to help release the hold Oracle has on Government organisations, especially with the on-going issues surrounding its inflexibility over license renewal.
He blasted the company and appealed to the crowd to help him “take Oracle down," Talking at the Big Data Breakfast in London, Malthouse claimed to have been “screwed” by Oracle during his time as chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA). This received rousing laughter from the hundred or so people in the room. Most of whom appeared to agree with the sentiment.

The Sunday Times reported that the Barclays Bank could reduce costs by 90 per cent
BARCLAYS will slash billions of pounds from its annual bill for IT spending a computer systems in a move that could upset technology giants such as Microsoft, Google, Oracle and SAP.
The bank has built its own “internal cloud” — a network of computer servers that can support the development of cutting-edge software. It is also starting to run large parts of its business using Linux, the open source software hailed by many experts as superior to offerings from market leaders such as Microsoft.
These actions in developing their own specialist software and Apps will slash the cost of developing computer systems by as much as 90%, Barclays claims.
Over time, the decision to build everything in-house will also slash annual licence payments made to tech giants for the use of their software.
The likes of Oracle, Microsoft and SAP have built their empires by making most of the worlds multinationals reliant on their technology and perpetual licence payments.
