Marquis ID Systems acquired by Gemalto
Gemalto a digital security company, have acquired all of the outstanding shares of Marquis ID Systems (MIDS), a primary provider of e-ID systems in the United States.
With nearly 14 years servicing and supporting Drivers License and Identification the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators ( AAMVA) standards, MIDS specialises in secure personalised enrollment and issuance systems to meet the requirements of each state. The combination of Gemalto and MIDS promises to bring to its customers the most innovative identity solutions and the ability to implement large scale card programs with the highest levels of service.
Stroz Friedberg Opens a Zurich Office, and names two Managing Directors
Ivo Hoppler and Nico Van der Beken who are tasked with spearheading growth in Switzerland
Stroz Friedberg, an investigations, intelligence and risk management company, have announced it has opened an office in Zurich, Switzerland, expanding its presence and operations in Europe.
Ivo Hoppler and Nico Van der Beken have joined as Managing Directors to lead the Swiss business. Mr. Hoppler and Mr. Van der Beken are both former senior executives with Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

However, an engineering student at Lund University in Sweden has made it happen - making his the first known company in the world to install the vein scanning technique in stores and coffee shops.

Fredrik Leifland got the idea for his start-up two years ago when he was standing in line at the supermarket. Growing impatient, he knew there had to be an easier and quicker way than using credit cards, and together with a group of classmates at Lund University he soon discovered biometric solutions. While vein scanning technology already existed, there was no system for actually using it as a form of payment.

The first new biometric passport was presented on July 30th, at an official ceremony in the Hotel Ivoire, in Abidjan, and was handed to the Chairman of the Economic and Social Council.
Zetes also officially opened its first local office in Africa (“Zetes Côte d’Ivoire or Zetes CI), initially employing 25 staff.
As planned, the personalization site was operational just 4 months after the contract was signed.
Zetes CI estimates it will produce around two hundred thousand passports per year (5 years validity period) for the entire population of about 18 million. The project will have a duration of 15 years and should generate, over this period, a revenue of more than 60 million euros for Zetes CI.

Southern Water in UK Selects New Rugged Tablet for field service teams
Taiwanese producer has signed a deal to supply Southern Water In the United kingdom with Getac’s 380 F110 Windows 8 fully rugged tablets for field service use.
The devices will be a critical component of Southern Water’s Work and Asset Management and Management Information (WAMMI) initiative, designed to streamline operations out in the field and improve service for customers.
Southern Water selected these devices following feedback from field service operatives who rated the F110 tablet as superior to their existing hardware. Southern Water impressed by the ability to deliver a fully rugged device at a cost-effective price. The devices are expected to be in operation by the end of June.
