Cablecom to allow CI Plus users to record programmes
Swiss cable operator Cablecom is to allow subscribers who use its CI Plus DigiCard to record digital TV programmes.
The operator said that current copy protection preventing the recording of programmes will be removed automatically by a software update.
Programmes viewed using the DigiCard can be recorded to storage media integrated into TVs or to external devices. The new system will allow broadcasters to decide individually which channels to block for recording. However, to date no Swiss broadcasters have taken measures to protect programmes from digital redistribution.
Cablecom introduced the DigiCard in May as an alternative for consumers that did not wish to acquire a set-top box. The card, available for €99, provides access to 55 basic TV channels and 70 radio services.
