Dell looks set to expand on its range of netbook systems with the launch of the Inspiron Mini 10v.

The system, pictured here, is scheduled to become available later this month and is described by Dell as "the affordable, portable internet companion".

The emphasis being on affordable, as the Inspiron Mini 10v is expected to carry a launch-day price tag of $299.

Despite having a trio of netbooks already available, Dell's existing Inspiron Mini 9, Inspiron Mini 10 and Inspiron Mini 12 are priced from $299, $399 and $429, respectively, when configured with a Windows operating system.

Should those figures go unchanged, the upcoming Inspiron Mini 10v will become Dell's cheapest 10in netbook - by a margin of $100.

So what's changed? Inside, Dell has swapped out the Intel's Z-series Atom processors for the tried-and-trusted 1.6GHz Atom N270. That'll be coupled with the usual 1GB of RAM, but a smaller 120GB hard drive - down from the Inspiron Mini 10's 160GB solution.

Further details remain unknown, but should the Inspiron Mini 10v reach UK shores, it might just do so with a price tag below £250.
